Patients often ask me what they can do to increase their energy, and I think it’s very important to understand the role that good nutrition plays in the energy game.
Here are a few strategies that I think you’ll find helpful:
Go to Bed on an Empty Stomach
You need that night time energy to heal and repair from the day that just whizzed by. If you find yourself snacking right before bedtime, you’ll be using your precious energy to digest those corn chips instead of using it to repower and regenerate.
Say See Ya to Sugar
This one’s a no-brainer. Sugar essentially robs your body of energy and taxes the body’s energy systems. Rely on food, instead, that’s fresh and natural. I believe they call that clean eating.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
The number-one reason for daytime fatigue is dehydration. Make it a habit to drink two glasses of water upon arising in the morning. Drinking water will kick-start the organs and the brain, and will pave the way to a good energy day.
Don’t forget to keep a water bottle handy and drink up throughout the day.
Smart Starts to Power Your Day
Did you know that whatever you eat for breakfast will serve as the baseline for your food cravings for the rest of the day? Let’s say you had two donuts. Your body will go through ups and downs all day long and you’ll want sugary foods as your main energy source. What if you had a smoothie or an omelet instead? Expect your body to prefer clean food as its primary source of sustenance and nutrition for many hours afterward.
Snacking on nuts and seeds during the day will also provide you with a lessening of energy peaks and valleys.
Good nutrition and chiropractic care go hand in hand. Eat right and don’t leave out regular adjustments for the best boost in energy!
