Auto Injury Treatment

Woman after a minor car accidentWhether you have recently experienced a low-speed fender bender or a more serious auto accident, your body has gone through trauma that shouldn’t be ignored. Headaches, concussion, neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, tingling and numbness, and lower back pain are some of the common symptoms people experience after an accident. That’s why we recommend you contact Lindenwoods Chiropractic as soon as possible following your accident so you can get checked.

‘But I Wasn’t Going Fast’

When an accident occurs and there wasn’t much damage to their vehicle, and they were driving slowly, many people mistakenly believe they are okay. That may not be true. If you were traveling over 10 to 15 kilometres per hour at the time of impact, this can result in permanent changes to the ligaments and muscles that support the spine. So even if there is no pain following an accident, there can be lifelong effects to the soft tissue that support the spine. That’s why getting checked is vital.

The sooner you come in the better because the longer you wait the worse the issue can become.

What to Expect

The first step is coming in for a comprehensive consultation. We will take X-rays in-house and get posture images to help us properly evaluate the position of the spine. Then we can craft a care plan including tailored adjustments and exercises to help you recover from your injuries.

FAQ

What are some common auto accident injuries that you address?

Whiplash is definitely one of the most common types of injuries we see at our practice. This type of injury occurs when the soft tissues around the spine are damaged. This damage is usually a result of the spine being pushed forward at the moment of impact. Two of the most common symptoms of whiplash-neck pain and stiffness-often don’t occur until a day or two after the accident. (Please see our Keys to Recognizing and Recovering From Whiplash handout.)

Herniated and slipped discs also occur often due to auto accidents. Disc injuries can be excruciating, with sharp pain often felt along the spinal column.

How does chiropractic care address auto accident injuries?

Chiropractic care is the ideal way to treat auto accident injuries such as whiplash and herniated/bulging discs. That’s because these chiropractic techniques are gentle, drug-free and non-invasive.

What if I only have minor pain?

Although you may feel that your pain isn’t that bad and you can put up with it, it is still crucial to get a comprehensive chiropractic assessment. Did you know that many musculoskeletal injuries, including whiplash, don’t cause severe pain immediately? In fact, you might not have pain for several weeks, months or years after the accident. By coming in for a thorough diagnostic exam after your accident we can make sure your injuries are accurately and completely diagnosed and treated.

Will Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) cover my care?

Yes, your care will be covered by MPI regardless of who was at fault in the accident. We will bill MPI directly.
