Are You Taking Your Vitamin D3?

Sunshine

Are you getting enough of the sunshine vitamin?

Everyone should be taking vitamin D3, whether you’re a child or an adult. Here in Canada, we don’t get huge amounts of sun every day, and now that we’re heading into winter, we can look forward to even less.

For years, our government has decreed that the recommended dosage of vitamin D should be 400 IU per day. Recent research, however, has determined that the ideal levels should be between 2500-5000 IU on a daily basis, which is
quite a difference.

So how do you know how much vitamin D3 is right for you?

The Reliability of Blood Testing

The only way to take the guesswork out of the amount of vitamin D that’s appropriate for you is through a simple blood test. Optimal levels of vitamin D should fall somewhere between 50 to 70 nanograms per milliliter, so depending on where you fall in that range will determine your personal recommended dosage.

Do you know that almost every patient in this office that has had this blood testing done has fallen very short of the mark? Many of these people have been taking vitamin D for years but were completely unaware that their bodies needed more to function optimally.

My advice? Don’t rely on guesswork, have your vitamin D levels checked; your body will thank you!
