Cholesterol Drugs Worthless

Drug companies did a study where they put half of the patients on Lipitor (the best selling drug in the world) and half the patients on a placebo.  After 3.5 years, 3% of patients on the placebo had heart attacks vs. 2% on Lipitor.  So the drug company said that Lipitor lowered the chance of heart attacks by 33% (because 2% is 33% less than 3%).

But here's the reality: Only one percent of the people on the study benefited from being on the drug.  In other words, they had to perscribe the drug for 100 people in order for it to reduce the risk for ONE person (and that was the study done by the drug company that yielded the most favorable results - an impartial study showed that NOBODY received any benefits from the drug!!!)  What about the 99 people?  Well, not only did the drug offer no benefits from the drug, they were subjected to side effects such as liver failure, depression, suicide, joint pain, and muscle destruction.  On top of that, Lipitor costs up to $1000 per year, and we are ALL paying for this worthless drug to be taken by almost half of people over 45.

Consider these other facts:

-The cholesterol-lowering drug Vytorin has been shown to not only fail to reduce your risk of heart attack, but it actually DOUBLES the rate at which your arteries clog!!!

-A statement on Crestor's website says, 'Crestor has not been shown to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke'!!
